About Infrared Thermometers

Infrared (IR) thermometers are one of the most effective tools on the market for measuring temperature. Their main appeal is their ability to measure temperature completely at a distance, allowing the user to stand safely away from extremely cold or hot environments and measure the surface temperature of an object.

The applications for these tools are incredibly vast, ranging from everything from measuring the temperature of extremely hot piping to safely evaluating the heat output of electrical components when they are live and it is too dangerous to make direct contact.

Despite the fact that they don't make direct contact with a surface, IR thermometers are still extremely accurate and will always deliver effective readings. Depending on the model in question the overall accuracy differs, as does the measurement range, functions of the thermometer and the overall distance that the thermometer can take readings from.

For those working in hazardous environments, we also stock the Fluke 568Ex, which is an intrinsically safe IR thermometer. This means you can work safely in potentially hazardous environments and get accurate temperature measurements without significant danger.
