Digital clamp meters are instruments which measure electrical current in a circuit. Some are open jaw or fork whereas some are clamp-on, which means they can be wrapped around copper cables. Clamp meters can be either digital or analogue and are also known as ammeters. They measure current in amps or milliamps and some have multimeter functions, such as the Fluke and Amprobe models which can also measure voltage and resistance. When electricians use these testers and current is measured in electrical or electronic circuits it’s generally placed in series instead of in parallel.
If you were to buy a cheap clampmeter it’s best to ensure that it is calibrated to ensure that all of the components are working correctly and to specification. More expensive options have the true RMS feature.
