Recently in Professional Electrician magazine a reader asked a question detailing an issue he had had with a three phase system.
When started, he found that one of the motors ran backwards, a problem which he was able to fix by reversing the phases. But the reader was worried that this could have caused a lot of damage and asked if there was any way this could be prevented from happening in future.
The reader’s answer came from Megger who suggested that the reader invest in a Phase Sequence Indicator, which are available to buy as individual units and have now been built in to some of the newer multifunction tester models.
Phase Sequence Indicators are ideal for those who, like the reader above, work with 3 phase systems and also have the added bonus of not being expensive and are small enough to fit into your tool kit.
It is the small accessories like this one that can really help when you’re working and you cannot always tell when you will need them to hand.
If you have been working for a while and now have your basic equipment, now could be the time to start thinking about increasing your testing accessories and giving yourself the advantage over other tradesmen.
